Could I just use this GIFset to point out why I still don’t like Smokescreen, as compared to say, Bumblebee?

Bumblebee fought incredibly hard this episode. Ferociously. Did a lot of damage.

But he did so with the air of a soldier doing his job. He didn’t appreciably enjoy it. He did what he had to do, he did it well, and he didn’t seem like he was playing a game.

Man this guy’s a fuckin genius when it comes to horror. When I first found the comic I was like, ‘Haha, what?’ and I thought the concept of holes in a mountain shaped like people was just downright goofy.

Long over due, but I’m sort of sadden there wasn’t a fanfiction made around this episode. I mean, I’d like to see Orion reaction to seeing Warlord Ratchet in person. Yeah, yeah, I could write one, but useless it’s a one-shot, it’s just adding more problem in my reputations. :(

This is pretty light tone on the slash, but just my favoritism for this OTP. I just…LOVE them together.

I just made another gifset from this episode, but I couldn’t resist making one for this scene, too.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how fucking NICE the Constructibots are? And how god damn misunderstood? I apologize for this wall of text but please, give it a quick read because as much as I love this episode, it really bothered me…

Bulkhead says they’re no good and they’ll never be good, but they rescued Bulkhead and Blitzwing.

Not because they’re Autobots or Decepticons….just because they’re bros with no biases who just don’t want anyone to get squashed.

Then they go and lug all the supplies back to the Decepticon’s base, get materials and try and fix Megatron’s bridge, try and peacefully take the Allspark fragments from Bulkhead and only resort to violence when Optimus threatens them (as opposed to, ya’know, explaining the situation and how they’re being tricked in more detail than Bulkhead’s half-assed rambling earlier), try and keep their friendship with Bulkhead up until he literally tries to smash their amnesia-sticken heads in with a wrecking ball….hell, even AFTER that, Scrap still goes with Sari to save the Autobots who tried to kill him in Human Error…..

Their only “flaw” was that they drank a lot of oil and were slightly obnoxious…but think about it for a moment. Did you notice how FUCKING HUGE they are? They’re bigger than Bulkhead! Almost as big as Lugnut! Not to mention, cement trucks and power shovels are notorious gass guzzlers…all bots are shown to drink oil as a fuel source, so it makes sense why they’d knock back a few dozen oil barrels. It’s literally their first day alive and they’re probably not used to the sudden drain of energy that comes out of all the work they do normally (building stuff), PLUS walking, talking, transforming, and driving.  They’re not doing it because they’re alcoholics…they’re doing it because they literally need that much oil to run properly. 

Even their obnoxious behavior can be explained. If the Wreck-Gar episode proved anything, it’s that when a machine comes to life for the first time, they’re pretty much a blank slate, aside from the interactions their vehicle had with humans in the past. Mix and Scrap were always surrounded by construction workers, men who are known for cat calling and having frat-boy mentalities. Again, it makes perfect sense for them to act this way if that’s all they really know. Not to mention, Blitzwing abuses their innocence, calling a police siren a “quitting bell” and Megatron telling them the TRUTH that the Autobots kicked them out of Cybertron, a statement which, without the proper context that these two clearly would not have had, could easily make anyone believe the Autobots are just as bad as the Decepticons. They go with the bots who were nicer to them and gave them better oil because…well did you see how the rest of the Autobot gang treated them? Imagine you just meet someone really nice, they take you to meet their friends, and all their friends do is glare at you and judge you and talk behind your back? Obviously you’re not going to like them! And as much as I love Ratchet, how dare he make the comment that they’re not charming. They’re not, not by any means…but Ratchet…seriously? YOU’RE judging someone for not being polite? 

Again, remember that this is literally their first week (at most) of existing. One side is telling them one thing, the other side is telling them the other, one’s mistreating them, but they’re still nice and friendly with Bulkhead and consider him a friend. If the Autobots took five minutes to put aside their judgements and calmly explain the entire situation, these two would have surely changed sides again! They’re not the hardest to convince, guys. As nice as they are, they’re pretty damn stupid too. Tell them they’re made of peanuts, they’ll probably believe you! But no. Optimus jumps to fisticuffs and Bulkhead BLOWS THEM THE FUCK UP! And even when they get amnesia and DO have the chance to be befriended again, what does Bulky do? He totally ruins it by trying to bash their brains in.

What the hell?! Bulkhead, what are you thinking?! You bots destroy building on a regular basis! Don’t chase away the guys who would willingly repair ALL your shit without a question! Oh, and if that’s not bad enough…Optimus says they have a second chance now AFTER Bulkhead chases them away. A chance to “make the right choice”

ARE. YOU. FUCKING. KIDDING. ME?

BULKHEAD JUST TRIED MURDERING THEM AND YOU THINK THEY’RE GONNA SIDE WITH YOU GUYS? What, are you high!? Of course they’re not going to side with you!! No bot in their right mind would side with a team that stood back and let a team mate attack them! The Constructibots weren’t the ones who needed the second chance to make the right decision, YOU WERE AND YOU TOTALLY BLEW IT.

I guess what bothers me the most about this episode is how, a few episodes ago, Wreck-Gar’s episode had the strong message of “Don’t Let People Tell You Who You Are, You Can Be Anything You Want To Be.” Hell, the entire theme of the SHOW is “There’s More To Someone Than You Think”. Sari, Bulkhead, Ratchet, Optimus, Bumblebee, Prowl…they ALL have a story arc where they show that there’s more to their personality they even they didn’t know about…they’re more than they’re stereotypical character traits and they CAN change (pun not intended) and better themselves if given the chance. 

The Constructibots were never given that chance. They’re written off as bad guys or immature fuck ups and never get any recognition from the other bots as to how NICE they actually are. Not only that, but between Mix’s technical jargon and Scrap’s kindly nature towards Snarl…the creators have actually shown that these two are both intelligent and warm individuals who just wanna help out, but can get a little immature at times. But again, Bumblebee’s immature, Ratchet is cranky, even PROWL was a jerk at first and all the bots seemed to be okay with that.  

Maybe this show was TRYING to give a PSA-like message about not hanging out with the wrong crowd, stay away from drinkers and all that…but is that really a good message? “Don’t judge. Always give people a chance…unless they drink then fuck those guys because they’re no good and will never be good”? 

And even if they were trying to make Bulkhead the “bad guy” in this episode, trying to say something like “even the sweetest of people can make mistakes once they’ve been hurt”…that heroic ending undermined it all.

And even in their episodes after Rise of the Constructicons, they’re not “bad” guys. Sure they’re written “badder” than they were in the first episode, (personally I think it’s because they were too NICE in the first episode for anyone to believe they would bully a little girl unless they changed their personalities slightly), but they’re still the lovable doofuses who could still be persuaded over to the opposite side if someone put an effort into it….Sari practically DID just that with Scrapper!

Alright….I think that’s all the rant I have in me right now. I apologize for this HUGE FUCKING TEXT POST but I’ve been wanting to talk about this for a VERY long time. Thanks for listening ;w;

In order, moving top-to-bottom, left to right.

1.  First, this is a high-end estimate.  The actual potential range is 100-140 million.  It’s misleading to quote one without the other.  Second, this is in comparison to roughly one billion male victims of male genital mutilation.  Third, unlike FGM, MGM is tolerated, accepted and legal in virtually every country including most first-world nations.  (Except Germany.  Thank god for Germany, some of the best beer in the world and they made MGM illegal.)  Female genital mutilation has been illegal in virtually every first-world nation and a large number of others since very recently after we were aware it existed, and it’s been the subject of considerable legal and activist pressure from then up until the present.  In comparison, MGM is being actively encouraged in many nations because of HIV research known to be methodologically flawed and at best inconclusive.  The idea that having one’s genitals mutilated is a primarily female issue or using it to make a “point” about female oppression is idiotic, especially in first-world countries where it’s already illegal and almost never happens.  We need to stop segregating the issue.  Human genital mutilation needs to be stopped, that’s all there is to it.

2.  This is complete bullshit, and always has been.  There is not and has never been any form of research or evidence to support this statistic, and it doesn’t help that while the original version was equally unsupported it used “property,” not “land,” and had a completely different meaning.

3.  This estimate, while potentially accurate, adds up to roughly 219,000 rapes per year.  However, the usage of this to suggest that this demonstrates female oppression in the U.S. is ridiculous in the face of evidence that just as many men are raped each year outside of prison as women, plus an additional 216,000 to 300,000 male victims (not rapes, victims) in prison.  Once again, while the statistic is potentially (it’s unsourced, remember) accurate, it’s very easily misused.

4.  Doubtful.  Besides all of the issues that’ll be raised separately in item 6, here is a list of fifteen occupations where women make more than men.  Now, from the width of some of the fields listed, these are not tiny niches.  The study from which the data came from was conducted by the U.S. BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics), and while the BLS undoubtedly tracks hundreds of jobs (and it’s not just these 15 either, as we’d have to add at least upper-level executives to the list) I highly doubt it tracks 1,500 of them.  Additionally, the source presumably used to justify this is over fifteen years old, which when looking at the changes of the last decade means it’s woefully out of date.

5.  *citation needed*  No, seriously.  The problem with this stat, according to Dr. Sylvia Chant of the London School of Economics and Political Science, is that it simply has no basis whatsoever in reality with no reliable data to back it and plenty that disagrees.

6.  Oh, the omnipresent “wage gap” myth.  For anyone who isn’t already familiar with the problems with the statistic, it’s discussed here in much greater detail.  In addition, the exact same factors that create the appearance of a gendered wage gap are also what causes women to “earn less” in most occupations as discussed in item 4.

7.  While the statistic in question seems to first come from an article that’s over 15 years old, this may well be the only entirely accurate one in this entire set.

8.  No.  Actually, according to the United Nations 79.2% of women worldwide are literate, which gives us an illiteracy rate of roughly 20.8%.  In comparison, 88.3% men are literate.  This means that worldwide women are around ten percent less likely to be literate than men.

9.  This is pretty much the culmination of the bullshit.  I mean, many of the rest had at least a grain of truth to them, but this, this literally sets a new standard for bullshit.  However, simply saying it’s bullshit isn’t enough: we need to break it down.  For starters, what do we label as “gender-based violence”?  That in itself is by definition already a subcategory of a subcategory of the various causes of death.  (Specifically, gender-based violence is a subset of violence which is itself a subset of “death by injury,” as opposed to by illness, natural causes, and so on.)  In fact, this is the easiest way to tackle it, by going in from the top.

Of the roughly 57 million people who die each year, approximately 5.8 million (a little more than 10%) die as a result of injury or violence.  For perspective, this means that even if we tally up all the various types of violence and injury, that’s still only about 1/3 of the 1/3 that the picture claims.  Sure, we could claim that women are vastly more likely to be killed than men, but the highest we could possibly get, even if every single one of those deaths was female, is 2/3 of the 1/3 that we’d need.  It’s simply not possible, even bending things to the very most extreme.  In fact, it’s nowhere close even to that.  Roughly 1.3 million of those 5.8 million deaths are traffic accidents, so unless you believe women are such poor drivers that a traffic accident qualifies as “gender-based violence,” we have to drop it to 4.5 million.  In fact, according to the WHO violence kills only about 1.6 million people worldwide each year.  Even if we were to presume that the roughly 800,000 yearly suicides were all a result of or reaction to gender-based violence, that’s still only 2.4 million….or less than 5% of the total.

Even now, we’re still ignoring a couple of crucial facts obvious to all of us not wearing rather thick genusglasögon: one, men have in every culture throughout history always made up the vast majority of all victims of violence (not to mention suicides) meaning that women are likely the substantial minority of that 2.4 million, and two, we still haven’t separated out “gendered” violence from the rest.  So despite the fact that we’re already down to less than a seventh of the quoted statistic, we still have much further to go than this.  While I’m not willing to fight through the morass, data on suicides suggests that worldwide, men commit suicide at at least three times the rate women do.  This means that of those 0.8 million suicides, only 0.2 million are women.  Separating things by gender now, that means that we have roughly 0.8 million women theoretically dead by violence, and another 0.2 million dead by suicide versus 28.5 million overall deaths.  This works out to roughly 3.5%.  Just by excluding a couple simple, common-sense things, we’re already over ten times lower than the stated figure and still dropping.

Do we really need to go on?  Frankly, no.  I have no statistics I would personally trust as to the gender ratio of deaths due to violence, and unlike feminists I’m not going to pretend I do.  That said, we know the ratio is heavily tipped towards men, as the ratio between genders murder-wise in most first-world countries seems to be three or four to one for anyone wanting some general perspective.  Similarly, I don’t have good stats on what percentage of murders are “gender-based violence,” or even a really good definition of what constitutes “gender-based violence” in the first place.  However, we don’t need them.  Women make up the vast minority of victims of violent death and an equally vast minority of suicide victims, which are already a small category within small categories, and gender-based violence makes up a tiny fraction of that.  This is the crowning achievement of bullshit, the turducken of bullshit, bullshit on top of bullshit wrapped in bullshit stuffed with bullshit with a side order of stupidity for good measure.

And people calling themselves feminists, claiming to be the arbiters of morality, equality and social progress….they’re stupid enough to believe it. 

Forever necessary to reblog this most brilliant of debunkings. I mean, come on feminists, no one denies that many women around the world face problems but spreading misleading, outdated or outright untruthful statistics is not going to help those women at all.

It’s not that it insults men directly. The problem people on tumblr spreading false facts and misguided ideals in their attempt to uncover inequality. These pictures aren’t helping feminism nor advancing the drive for equality. They’re just giving people needless animosity and pushes them to a one sided point of view. If we truly want equality, we need to properly analyze what issues affect both men and women.
